State Congress chief says BJP government’s  decision smacks of political bias

Mumbai: Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan today hit out at the BJP-led state government for not including Nanded, Latur and Parbhani in the ‘smart city’ project.

It smacked of political bias because the civic bodies in these cities were controlled by the Congress and NCP, he alleged.

Aurangabad, included in the project, has a civic body controlled by Shiv Sena and the BJP, Chavan pointed out here.

“It was expected that Nanded, Latur or Parbhani will be included in the list from the Marathwada region. However, due to political bias, these cities were overlooked,” he said.

He also criticised the BJP for showing black flags to Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi when he visited the protesting students at Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.

“Rahul Gandhi was at FTII on invitation from the students. But BJP wants to politicise everything. Congress will give a fitting reply when the Prime Minister visits the state,” Chavan said.

He also said the state government had failed to fulfill the promise of scrapping the Local Body Tax. “Instead of 100 per cent abolition, the government has retained LBT for a particular income bracket,” he said.
