Mumbai : Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has questioned the sanctity of the Fadnavis government’s decision to abolish Local Body Tax (LBT).
“Without amending laws regarding taxation, the decision to abolish LBT would unnecessarily burden the rural area with double taxation,” Chavan said while informally chatting to reporters here on Thursday. He blamed the BJP for opposing the GST during the UPA rule. “If the common tax had come earlier, country’s growth rate would have gone up at least by two percent,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena too has sought clarity on the issue and said, in its mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, more funds should have been allocated for Mumbai.
