Mumbai: Soon commuters travelling on the Main and Harbour line of Central Railway (CR) will be able to locate the positioning of trains. CR official said they are in the process of installing Global Positioning System (GPS) in all its local trains which will help the commuters to know the exact location and arrival timings of the trains. SK Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, CR confirmed the development saying that by August 15 all CR rakes will have GPS installed in it and it will be connected to their main server at CSMT headquarters.
“This new system will be connected with the m-indicator application and it will also have connectivity with control room at all the CR stations,” said Jain. CR official further said “GPS system will have access to control room, Motorman and Guard. So if the train halts at any place commuter can check where it has stopped.” Meanwhile CR has accepted there is indeed a communication gap with the passengers about informing them of reasons of trains getting halted. “We will soon be installing a radio in the motorman cabins so that if anything happens, he can make announcements so that commuters should know what’s happening. Currently the system is in its final stage of completion, once it is done Radio system will be installed with immediate effect,” said an official.
