Local train derails between Dombivali and Thakurli leading to cancellation of 20 services
Mumbai : Commuters on Central Railway (CR) had to face double trouble on Sunday after two wheels of a train heading towards Kalyan derailed while the train was passing between Dombivali and Thakurli statioins. No commuter travelling in the train sustained injuries in the incident but as many as 20 services had to be cancelled while several others were running with a delay of 20 minutes and above much after the problem was resolved at 1:55 pm.
After the train crossed Dombivali at 11:34 am two wheels of the coach slipped off tracks resulting into derailment. The train got stuck on track for about two hours due to which commuters had to jump off the train and walk to the nearby railway stations. The tracks were restored at 1:55 pm. This incident comes on a Sunday when commuters have to deal with delayed trains and fewer services due to mega block. This Sunday being an off day and second day of Eid celebrations only complicated the problem. Railways stations were flooded with commuters who were mostly heading to meet their relatives after the festival. Mohammad Faiz, who was heading to Kalyan to meet his relatives said, “I had to wait for nearly 30 minutes before I could get another train which was also very crowded.”
This is the first incident that Central Railway (CR) has witnessed over the past one year after the spate of derailments during August and October 2014. Senior railway officials who visited the derailment spot have suggested a fault with the tracks than the train which could have caused derailment. A railway official said, “We have checked the coaches. During preliminary investigation there seems to be nothing wrong with them. The mud beneath the tracks sank which could have possibly caused the derailment. Actual cause of the incident will be known after filing of the report.”
