Mumbai : The Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Company has been allotted the work of installing CCTV cameras in the city after opening of tender on Monday.
The tender process for installation of CCTV cameras had earlier started but had not gathered speed. The state administration completed tender process after the directives from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. State had received two tenders from Premium Company and L&T. Though the tender of Premium Company was of low cost it had some discrepancies. Hence, tender of this company was cancelled and L&T was allotted the work.
The Democratic Front (DF) government had decided to install 5,000 CCTV cameras in the city after the terrorists attack on Mumbai. After terrorist attack, the then Home Minister R R Patil had visited London to study the pattern of Scotland Yard’s CCTV camera installation. But the DF government could not install cameras. After the directives of CM Fadnavis, State’s chief secretary completed tender process and allotted the work to L&T Company.

Prominent places where these cameras are to be installed include Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Churchgate railway station premises, municipal corporation area, beaches, Zaveri Bazar, Crawford Market and some other strategically important places.
