Mumbai : The Bombay High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing on actor Salman Khan’s plea against his conviction in the 13-year-old hit and run case till July 1.
When the case came up for hearing in Court No. 30 at 11.30 am, Justice A R Joshi was informed by Khan’s lawyer Amit Desai that the case papers were not ready.
Ordering speedy completion of case papers and after Chief Public Prosecutor SS Shinde consented to the date fixed for the next hearing, Justice Joshi adjourned the court till July 1.
While Salman didn’t attend the proceedings; his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri was present in the court with their lawyer.
On May 6, the Sessions Court had awarded Khan five years of imprisonment after which the superstar appealed against the conviction in the HC which suspended his sentence and subsequently granted him bail.
The HC had on May 8 stayed the execution of the 5-year sentence awarded to Khan in the 13-year-old case and granted him bail while admitting his appeal.
A man was killed and four others were severely injured when Khan’s Toyota Land Cruiser ran over them while they were asleep on a pavement outside a bakery on September 28, 2002.
Apart from being convicted of culpable homicide, Khan was also found guilty of rash and negligent driving and causing hurt by acts endangering life or personal property of others, which prescribe six months’ jail.

Geeta Kapoor seeks dismissal of case
Mumbai: Film choreographer Geeta Kapoor too has approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash a case registered against her for rash and negligent driving and injuring a person. Kapoor sought dismissal of the case on the ground that she has already reached a financial settlement with the victim.
