Mumbai : One person died and four were injured when a car lift in a parking lot of a high-rise, collapsed to the base. The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on Thursday night in Ganesh Krupa building in Girgaum area of the city. “The lift was resting on the fifth floor when it crashed to the floor,” said an officer at VP Road police station.
Five workers were present near the said lift when it collapsed. While most of them escaped, Raju Prajapati, 27, an attendant suffered head injuries and was declared dead on the spot. “Since the building is still under construction, we are looking at all angles to ascertain the cause of the collapse. We believe it to be a technical fault in the wiring of the lift,” the officer added. Four other workers suffered minor injuries and were rushed to the Nair hospital. The police have registered a case of negligence against both the owner of the construction company and the site supervisor.
