Mumbai :  A week after the Mumbai police launched its drive to check radio cabs and black and yellow taxi drivers for criminal antecedents, they have segregated 50,000 permits and badges to their respective police stations based on their registered addresses.

“With around 50 cops working on the mammoth task every day, we have managed to achieve this number and are hoping to maintain this speed in the coming 12 days,” said spokesperson for Mumbai police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dhananjay Kulkarni.

They have come across hurdles such as taxis which are driven by multiple drivers and hence have multiple permits. In addition, there are certain drivers who had made their permits in the past, but left the city and have settled somewhere else now. And as such this is hampering the cops’ speed.
