While people are eagerly waiting for the Union Budget, the Western Railways (WR) is also keeping hopes on the budget. The WR is expecting to get approval for 15-coach trains on the slow line and an outstation train platform at Jogeshwari railway station.
A senior WR official told the Hindustan Times, “An approval for 15-coach trains on the slow line of WR is expected. The cost-detail plans for the project have been sent to the railway board. A platform for outstation trains is also required and the proposal was sent to the board once again.” According to the Hindustan Times, on Central Railway (CR), the introduction of the latest Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) trains on intercity routes is likely to get a place in the budget. The zonal railway is planning to commence MEMU train services from Bhusawal railway station and is also studying the feasibility of the introduction of MEMU trains on the Mumbai-Pune route.
Lata Argade, vice-president, Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh told the leading daily, “The projects under MUTP-2, MUTP-3 need to begin and be completed soon. The MEMU trains will be helpful and a boon to passengers.” In February's interim budget, Rs 578.70 crore was allocated for different projects under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP). MUTP-2 was allocated Rs 244.92 crore, Rs 283.78 crore for MUTP-3 and Rs 50 crore for MUTP-3A projects.
