The MNS chief supported Chitrapat Sena’s stand that Shah Rukh Khan helped Chennai flood victims and ignored Maha farmers.
Mumbai : In a distinct deviation from the stand taken by an affiliate body, MNS Chief Raj Thackeray clarified on Tuesday that the appeal to boycott Shah Rukh Khan’s new film ‘Dilwale’ is not the official stand of his party.
The ‘MNS Chitrapat Karmachari Sena’ chief Amey Khopkar had on Monday appealed to people to boycott ‘Dilwale’, which is slated for released this week, citing ignorance on part of the actor towards farmers’ plight in the state.
Khopkar had alleged that Khan has made a lot of money, but has not helped farmers in distress and that when his help is needed, he is not forthcoming.
However, MNS chief Raj Thackeray, while corroborating Khopkar’s arguments, but did not endorse his appeal against the movie.
“Shah Rukh Khan donated Rs 1 crore to people who have been affected by Chennai [floods] tragedy. But he has forgotten drought-hit farmers of Maharashtra. This has been condemned by the Chitrapat Sena,” Thackeray said in a statement.
“What it [Chitrapat Sena] is saying is right. Coming to Maharashtra, becoming big, earning a name for oneself and then forgetting the state is not right. He [Khan] should understand this,” Thackeray clarified in the statement.
“Nevertheless, I want to make it clear that Chitrapat Sena’s stand of boycotting the film is not an official stand of the party,” he said.
