To be shut down soon
Mumbai : BMC standing committee chairman Yashodhar Phanse directed the civic administration to seal the building at Bhulabhai Desai Road and submit report to the standing committee as the occupant is not running the business as per the BMC’s rule.
The BMC had awarded a plot admeasuring 1056 square meter reserved for parking, to Akruti Developers on public private partnership (PPP) basis to develop it. The developer had developed a building for parking but the remaining four floors were rented to third party to run a hotel where the occupant was running hookah parlour without getting permissions from the BMC.
On Tuesday, Phanse visited the building – the Hub Town Commercial Complex on Bhulabhai Desai Road. During the visit it came in light that many Illegal activities have been going on within the complex, without BMC’s knowledge.
The property comprises of a 20-storey parking lot and the 4 storey high commercial complex. It is built on a plot that originally belongs to the BMC and was developed by Akruti Nirman Limited on PPP model. The contract was signed in 2004 by the BMC and the developer, which was got over in 2014, is up for renewal this year.
Meanwhile, these restaurants have also blatantly ignored the fire safety norms and there are no fire extinguishers in place anywhere in the building.
Phanse has proposed that the matter be urgently discussed in the upcoming standing committee meeting next week. Besides, he has ordered that the building must be sealed immediately. The improvements committee of the BMC will also hear the matter and decide whether to revoke the Public Private Partnership with Akruti Nirman Limited.
