In a bid to provide advanced health care to patients during emergencies, the BMC will soon inaugurate its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department at KEM hospital next week. The civic body claims this to be the largest EMS department in the country. The department will now have 78 beds, four operation theatres and one special room for endoscopy, apart from a surgical and orthopeadic department, pathology lab, ECG room, accident ward, etc. According to a statement issued by the BMC, this department will be the largest of its kind in the country and will be inaugurated on November 18 at the hands of Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackerey.
