Mumbai : The Congress has alleged that less than 6% of the desilting work of Mumbai’s nullahs has been completed and Rs 291 crore invested in the cleaning have been wasted. It has demanded that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation immediately stop the payment to contractors, even as the civic body issued a notice stating that 99% of the pre-monsoon desilting of nullahs has been completed so far.

Corporator Mohsin Haider who is the General Secretary Mumbai Congress said, “This year the BMC did not allot dumping grounds to the contractors who were directed to find a place to dump the silt. The seven dumping grounds are empty.”

Moreover, the Haider has also claimed that the contractors have not approached the concerned village panchayat to take permission for dumping the silt and all permission papers are forged.
