Mumbai: The BMC has issued a notice to revise the reservation for 60 land parcels located between Goregaon and Dahisar, a crucial step in advancing the second phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. These parcels fall within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) buffer as designated by government authorities.

Citizens are now provided with a 30-day period to submit their suggestions or objections regarding the proposed changes. The 20-kilometer road project, estimated to cost Rs 16,621 crore, will create a vital link between Versova and Dahisar. Additionally, a 5.6-km-long and 45-metre-wide elevated road will be constructed to connect Dahisar with Bhayandar. This new infrastructure is expected to reduce the burden on the Dahisar check naka by 30-35%.

Moreover, it will provide an alternate route to Mira-Bhayandar. The estimated cost for this section of the project is approximately Rs3,304 crore. After receiving environmental clearances the BMC started the work on the VDLR project this year. On Wednesday, the BMC issued a notice about the reservation of 31 land parcels in Eksar (Borivali), 12 in Malad (West), seven in Malvani, five in Goregaon (East), four in Charkop (Kandivali West), and 1 in Dahisar.

More than 70% of the land is government-owned, while 25-30% is privately owned. These lands, within the CRZ boundary, will be used for the coastal road project. After a 30-day period for suggestions and objections, BMC will hold a public hearing. “The coastal road was initially planned up to Bangur Nagar in Goregaon, but now it has been extended to Dahisar, requiring updates to the land reservations in the Development Plan (DP) – 2034,” an official said.
