Mumbai : In the wake of a rising number of cases of swine flu in the city, the civic body stated that they have strengthened their surveillance and awareness activities across the city. Civic health officers said that their emphasis is on controlling mortality and focusing on people with morbidities. They added that 14 women have gotten vaccinated against swine flu at Kasturba Hospital alone, and the civic body has received 20,000 tablets of Oseltamivir from the state government on Tuesday.
A workshop was organised for private as well as public health officers on Thursday, wherein 400 doctors were sensitised about monsoon-related diseases at Nair Hospital. The civic body stated that seasonal changes are triggering all the viruses and bacteria in the atmosphere, following which, high-risk categories of people, including pregnant women, the elderly, diabetics, hypertension patients and obese people, were the worst-affected.
Meanwhile, the civic body has started surveillance activities in all the areas of the city, wherein people who are found symptomatic are administered Oseltamivir dosage.
