Mumbai : Not leaving any stone unturned to lure the Bihar electorate ahead of the Assembly elections, the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Mumbai wing will organise an event for Biharis at Goregaon on September 20.
The Bihar Assembly elections are significant for the BJP, and recently the central government announced an additional power package of Rs 1,850 crore for the state. The Cabinet also gave a go-ahead of 6% hike in the Dearness Allowance for Central government employees and pensioners.
They have no turned their attention to Biharis residing in Mumbai. According to a rough estimate, 40 lakh of the residents of Mumbai are from North India including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, of which 8 lakh are from Bihar.
The BJP Mumbai unit is going to organise a gathering of people from Bihar at NSE Ground Goregaon (East). BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussen and Rajeev Pratap Rudi will be the chief guests of the function. The party will appeal to the Biharis to convince their family members and relatives — the potential voters in Bihar. According to sources, development is expected to be the party’s pitch for Sunday.
“If a bread earner in Mumbai I convince by the BJP, he can convey the message to his family and relatives in Bihar. It may be an effective strategy,” said a BJP leader from the Mumbai unit.
Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar said the event has not been finalised yet. “We are waiting for a final nod from Delhi. If they say yes to it, then we will organise it,” he said.
