Mumbai: BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya has filed three defamation suits in the Bombay High Court against the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Ambadas Danve, a Marathi news channel, and Anil Thatte, who runs a YouTube channel. They are alleged to have uploaded an obscene video of the BJP leader.
Justice SM Modak directed the respondents to file their affidavits within four weeks on Wednesday.
Somaiya's claims
Somaiya has sought Rs 100 crore in damages from each defendant, claiming that they made defamatory statements against him regarding the video. He has also requested a court order directing the respondents to remove the videos, refrain from uploading any more defamatory content, and abstain from making further statements against him. Additionally, he has asked for an unconditional apology from the defendants.
Advocate Hrishikesh Mundargi, representing the BJP leader, informed the court that the news channel aired the alleged obscene video along with defamatory statements in July. He also mentioned that a police complaint has already been filed by Somaiya, and an investigation is underway.
According to the plea, Thatte also published videos on his YouTube channel that tarnished Somaiya's reputation
