Mumbai: Trans-Harbour line commuters on Central Railway (CR) were severely inconvenienced for an hour-and-a-half on Saturday morning, due to the snapping of the overhead wires between Sanpada and Turbhe stations after a crow was electrocuted. Even as repairs were underway during rush hour, stranded commuters jumped on the tracks and began walking, in an attempt to reach work on time. Services towards Panvel were suspended from 8 am to 9.40 am.
According to CR, the disruption occurred on Saturday, when a crow was electrocuted, causing damage to the overhead equipment (OHE) between Sanpada and Turbhe railway stations. An official said, birds often collide with overhead structures and conductors, which causes contamination of insulators and equipment, disrupting rail services. “As OHE wires on the route towards Panvel snapped, the power supply to wires was shut down. Due to the OHE issue on the trans-Harbour line near Turbhe at 8 am, train schedules were affected. Restoration work was taken up immediately and services were restored at 9.40 am.”
