Bhayandar : The lone post-mortem center in the twin-city run by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has been abruptly closed down. 7 civic doctors, who till now had been conducting post-mortem on a rotational basis refused to carry on with the services since Monday.
It should be noted that the post of government deputed gazette medical officer is lying vacant for the past 18 months. Working as routine medical personnel, the doctors specialising in other branches were handling post-mortems as a stop-gap arrangement.
This despite the fact that post-mortem is a medico-legal procedure- an integral part of police’s investigation, which can only be carried out by a civil surgeon or a doctor specifically appointed by the government as per the CrPC.
