Bhayandar: Land sharks seem to have set eyes on the lone playground in the Saraswati Nagar area of Bhayandar (East), which the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has developed by spending lakhs of rupees. Residents and visitors were shocked to see the erected poles in an attempt to demarcate and create a boundary on the vast portion of the plot, which, as per the development plan (DP), has been reserved for a playground.

“This is the lone playground for children in the region. Even if there is a private stake, the civic administration should take steps to acquire the reserved property in accordance with the rules,” said local corporator Dinesh Nalawade, who has threatened to launch a Shiv Sena-style agitation, if civic officials failed to resolve the issue at the earliest.

When contacted the PWD executive engineer, Deepak Khambit said, “It is a property tagged with reservation. Any attempts to possess it is illegal. I will direct the ward officer to remove the poles and restore the playground to original status.”
