Bhayandar horror: Man molests 5-year-old girl at night shelter

Bhayandar : Night shelters in Mira-Bhayandar are once again in the news for wrong reasons. A 40-year-old man was caught red-handed while sexually molesting a 5-year-old girl at one such shelter, located above the Fire Station in Bhayandar on Friday. Identified as Viren Vora (40), the accused had been staying at the night shelter for the past six months.

Fire brigade personnel spotted Vora trying to molest a five-year-old girl on the terrace of the building at about 5.30 pm. After a sound thrashing, Vora was handed over to the local police by the Fire Brigade personnel who claimed that the sex pervert had lured the girl (who stays in the nearby locality) under the pretext of showing her pigeons.
While Vora was handed over to the police, the process of investigations and filing a FIR was still on till reports last came in. “We are investigating the matter and a FIR will be registered charging the youth for molestation and under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012,” confirmed an officer from the Bhayandar police station.
Following the direction of the Supreme Court in 2011, the MBMC had started five night shelters in the region. Although these shelters are temporary accommodation arrangements operated by NGOs to provide night-stay facilities to the homeless, it has been alleged that due the non-existence of a scrutiny system, anti-social elements have been taking refuge in such shelters.
A small-time telefilm producer from Gujarat, Ashok Bhagwandas Mewada (40), committed suicide at one such shelter, located in Kashigaon in Mira Road in August 2013. Moreover, there have been reports of police carrying out raids after receiving tip-offs regarding the presence of criminals in these shelters.
