BHAYANDAR: BJP leaders from the Mira Bhayandar unit are under the scanner for allegedly violating the model code of conduct which has come into force from March 10, the day (EC) of India announced the schedule of the Lok Sabha polls.
In his complaint to the State Election Commissioner and other agencies, RTI activist Krishna Gupta has stated that despite imposition of the model code of conduct, the local BJP legislator Narendra Mehta along with municipal corporators and office bearers from his party in an attempt to influence the electorate, conducted inaugurations and ground breaking ceremonies in the region thus violating EC guidelines.
“Despite, my complaints against the brazen violations, the district machinery has failed to take action. How can we expect free and fair polls in such circumstances?” questioned Gupta.
The images of the inaugural ceremonies had gone on social media platforms. Refuting the allegations and complaints as baseless and fabricated, BJP corporator and former standing committee chairman, Dhruvkishor Patil said, “There is no question of violations as all functions were held well before the imposition of the poll code.” Meanwhile the civic administration has feigned ignorance about any such inaugural ceremony. –
