Mumbai : The general manager (GM) of BEST has ordered an internal inquiry to investigate the cause that led to a delay in the restoration of power supply to thousands of households that were left in the dark following the heavy showers on June 19.

The decision to conduct a probe was taken during the committee meeting held on Thursday, after the committee members threatened to adjourn the meeting if no action is taken.

The BEST management faced the ire of the committee members, who alleged that BEST had failed miserably in doing its duty and that thousands of calls to its call centre about the supply of power went unanswered.

On Friday, over 6,000 households in Mumbai were left in darkness as problems cropped up in the power supply cable with heavy rains lashing the city.

The problem was further aggravated after the power supply to several of these households was not restored even till today.

Committee member Ravi Raja said, “The power cables used by BEST are of poor quality and break off even in those locations where there is no digging carried out by an external agency, or even when the power load is less. It took BEST three to four days to restore power, which should be done in 12 hours.”
