Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, in a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanded inclusion of two of his party members in the state government-appointed committee to resolve the BEST workers’ strike. The committee was formed on January 11 on the direction of Bombay High Court and has three members appointed by the state government.
“I have met the employees and the family members of the BEST and it is my responsibility to present their problems to the government and enable them to get justice,” said Thackeray, in his letter to the Fadnavis. The MNS has demanded the nomination of Sandeep Deshpande and Santosh Dhuri to the negotiation committee. When contacted, Deshpande, said the employees of the electricity branch of the BEST are also facing problems.
“We want the committee to hear us out, as we will be able to present a comprehensive view of all the employees,” he said. Earlier, Thackeray had extended his support to the strike and the families of the striking employees. The MNS workers had threatened violence on Monday if the issue was unresolved. Accordingly, they had stopped the work on the coastal road project and Metro 3 on Monday.
