Mumbai: Congress corporator Sufiyan Vanu on Monday staged protests outside the Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar’s cabin in BMC. Vanu accused the Shiv Sena party for not discussing on the burning issue of the striking employees of BEST. Usually, the BMC general body meeting is conducted for over three hours, but on Monday the meeting was concluded in just 15 minutes.

Corporators from the opposition parties were not allowed to speak on the BEST employees’ strike. They also wanted to highlight the plight of Mumbaikars, but were denied an opportunity. This irked Vanu, from the Congress. “Nearly 30 lakh Mumbaikars are suffering due to the BEST strike. This issue was to be discussed in our general body meeting, but we were denied the right.

This is a political conspiracy by the Mayor, who did not allow anyone to speak and the meeting, winded up within few minutes,” said Vanu. Corporators from Congress have accused the Sena of being afraid to face the public and the Opposition. “This clearly indicates that the Sena, which is ruling both BEST and BMC, are running away from their responsibility, whose main intenation is to privatise the BEST bus services”, said Vanu.
