Bhayandar: The hoax calls to blow up Bhabha Atomic Research Center’s (BARC) housing colony in Boisar, which had sent the entire police machinery into a tizzy on Friday, has turned out to be an act of inter-family revenge by a 45-year-old man. The police on Sunday arrested the hoax caller, identified as Ashok Maheshwari Prasad alias Mahesh Saha (45), a water purifier technician from Wadala who confessed of making the call to settle scores with his brother-in-law who works with the BARC. Panic gripped BARC’s staff quarters following bomb hoax calls, which swung the Thane (Rural) police and personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) into immediate action. The administrative wing of the BARC was in receipt of the threat call from an unidentified person who warned about an impending blast. The investigating team traced the call to a Wadala resident who revealed that his phone was being used by Saha, a resident of Diva who operates as a water purifier technician from his shop in the Antop Hill area of Wadala.
During investigations Saha confessed to have made the hoax call in an attempt to take revenge on his brother-in-law who works as a lab technician in the Tarapur unit of BARC. Saha believed that his brother- in-law had played an instrumental role in destroying his family life by instigating his wife to get separated from her in 2011.
