Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday adjourned for two weeks, the hearing on petitions challenging the proposed Bal Thackeray memorial at the erstwhile Mayor Bungalow at Shivaji Park, Dadar. The HC has also directed the petitioners to implead Uddhav Thackeray and other members of the committee, which will be overseeing the construction work the memorial, as respondents to the litigation.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Naresh Patil was seized with two petitions – one filed by activist Bhagwanji Rayani through advocate Prapdeep Havnur and the other by NGO Jan Mukti Morhca, filed through advocate Uday Warunjikar.
Both the petitions have challenged the decision of the government to convert Mayor bungalow, a heritage structure into the memorial. When the matter was called on for hearing, the advocate appearing for Rayani, informed the bench that the 11-member committee – Bal Thackeray Rashtriya Smarak Samiti, was yet to be made as a respondent in both the petitions. The bench accordingly adjourned the matter for hearing after two weeks.
