Mumbai : “Rahul….”  Present, Sir..”  interactions like these during school attendance may soon be the things of the past as the BMC plans to install biometric system to register attendance.

This system will be implemented from academic year 2014-15.

Education chairman Manoj Kotak said, “This year education budget has provided for new tracking system for every BMC child and teacher, Biometric system is a part of the aforementioned tracking system.

This biometrics-punching machine will be fitted outside every classroom.

Students will be required to scan their thumb to mark their attendance.”

“Another feature that the BMC plans to implement is that of a the system which will send an sms to the parents if their ward is not present in the class,” Kotak said.

Kotak said further said that the progress of a student along with the information of the lessons taught by the teacher would be recorded in the child tracking system.
