Mumbai: The Mumbai ACB caught an assistant public prosecutor Preeti Jagtap redhanded, taking Rs50,000 bribe. The complainant was accused of cheating, and Jagtap was to appear for him. However, she demanded a bribe to represent him in court. Police said on Saturday, ACB officials laid a trap at Andheri Metropolitan Court, after a complainant claimed he was asked for a bribe. The complainant, booked for cheating and common intention at Amboli police station, was referred to Jagtap to represent him in the court.
When the complainant met Jagtap, she sought Rs50,000 to ‘settle’ the case, promising she will ensure the case is shut, said an ACB official. The complainant was instructed to comply and lure her to the court to take the bribe. “Jagtap has 6 years’ experience. She was posted at Andheri court 7 months ago. We raided the court premises around 11.30am on Saturday and caught Jagtap accepting the bribe red-handed,” said an official.
