Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday ordered an inquiry into the alleged ransacking of an ashram of a spiritual leader at Ingaon village by a mob led by an NCP corporator, which also looted Rs 1 lakh.
“I have ordered an inquiry,” Fadnavis said.
The incident took place on Tuesday night when the mob of around 20-25 persons, led by NCP corporator Ashish Damle, attacked the ashram of Ratnakar Maharaj and damaged its property.
The inmates were manhandled and the mob also looted Rs 1 lakh from the ashram, police said.
The police have already registered a case under various sections of the IPC in this connection, but are yet to make any arrests. The NCP has already expelled Damle from the party for “taking the law into his hands”.
