Bhayandar : The arrest of two civic medicos including a medical officer, who landed in the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) net on Thursday for seeking bribe from a local Electropath, has turned the spotlight on the rampant bogus doctor menace plaguing the Mira Bhayandar area.

Following a complaint – the Thane unit of the anti-crime branch arrested MBMC medical officer Dr. Sanjeev Gaikwad and Pharmacist Yogesh Shinde on Thursday. The complainant operates an Electropathy clinic in the Janta Nagar slums in Kashimira.

In his complaint the electropath stated that the duo had demanded Rs.1.20 lakh as annual bribe money in order to protect him from the recent crackdown initiated by the civic health department against quacks and unqualified doctors who had been prescribing and dispensing allopathic medicines to patients approaching their clinics. Subsequently a crime branch team DSP Ajay Afle laid a trap and nabbed tea vendor Mohan Rathod while accepting the bribe.
