Bhayandar : Even as the murderous attack on a woman inside the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) kiosk in Bangalore is still fresh in the minds of the countrymen, an attempt to rob an ATM in Virar on Monday night has yet again exposed the chinks in the security of the kiosks.

Unidentified miscreants made an unsuccessful attempt to break open the ATM machine of Union Bank of India located in the station road area of Virar (east), police said. The accused apparently entered the unguarded center and tried to open up the front panels of the ATM machine, but failed to accomplish the job and fled. The incident came to light at about 9 am on Tuesday when a nearby shopkeeper noticed the damaged ATM and informed the police. A case under section 380 and 511 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against unidentified persons, said the police.
