Andheri station tops list of paperless tickets

Mumbai :  After nearly a month of the inauguration of paperless ticket system along the Western Railway (WR), it has come to the light that Andheri station has highest number of tech savvy commuters, with maximum paperless tickets sold from there.

 A total of 2,683 paperless tickets- which is an odd 19 percent of the total sale of tickets on WR- is from Andheri station. It is followed by Borivali with 2006 tickets sold, which is 14 percent of the total sale.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu inaugurated paperless mobile ticketing on July 8, on WR. The sale of the tickets has picked up from 500 tickets sold on the first day to 12,008 tickets sold until August 23. A total of 13,942 commuters travelled during this period which has generated a revenue of Rs 1,78,050.

Churchgate which is the headquarters of WR has sold merely 702 tickets until August 23.  The top five stations on WR with the highest sale of tickets are Andheri, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad and Goregaon. The lowest sale of tickets has been reported on Jogeshwari with 568 tickets.

 The paperless ticketing system is yet to be inaugurated on Central Railway but it had the mobile ticketing application, wherein the commuter gets a printout of the ticket from the Automatic Ticket Vending Machine. With the paper mobile ticketing in place, Thane has witnessed the heights sale of mobile ticket with 3,553 tickets sold. Thane is followed by Ghatkopar with 2162 tickets sold and Dadar having a close third with 1676 tickets sold. Between July 8 and August 23 a total of 14,529 paper tickets were sold on Central Railway which generated a total revenue of Rs 2,42,210.

The top five station on CR with the highest sale of tickets are Thane, Ghatkopar, Dadar, Mumbai CST and Kurla. The lowest sale of tickets had been reported on Vashi with 796 tickets. The officials are expecting these numbers of further increase with paperless mobile ticketing where in no print out will be  required.

Paperless  mobile ticketing on CR

Railway officials are all set to inaugurate the facility of paperless mobile ticketing on central Railway (CR) as well whereas they will be introducing the facility of issuing your season tickets also using the mobile application.

An official from CRIS which is developing the software for the generation of the season ticket using the mobile application said, “Commuters will be able to issue a single route pass like from CST to Panvel, but those who want multiple routes will not be able to as the software for it is yet to be developed.” Railway officials are looking at inaugurating paperless mobile ticketing on CR by second week of September along with cash/coin ticket vending machines.
