Amravati killing: MP Navneet Rana meets slain chemist Umesh Kolhe's family

The police identified the killers through a CCTV and have arrested a total of six people.

Independent MP from Amravati Navneet Rana met the kin of Umesh Kolhe, who was stabbed to death on his scooter by three people in Amravati on June 21.

Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe, a chemist based in Amravati was stabbed to death on June 21 for allegedly sharing a post on some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma, the incident comes a weeks after the Udaipur brutal murder of a tailor who was beheaded for showing support to Nupur Sharma.

The police identified the killers through CCTV and arrested a total of six people.

According to a police officer quoted by news agency PTI, "He had allegedly shared a post on some WhatsApp groups in support of Nupur Sharma for her comments."

Irfan Khan (35), the alleged mastermind behind the killing of Umesh, was produced before a magistrate court on Sunday afternoon where he was remanded in police custody till July 7.

Meanwhile, Mahesh Kolhe, brother of Umesh Kolhe said that the reasons behind Kolhe's death are yet to be ascertained. He said that Kolhe forwarded some messages on Nupur Sharma in some Whatsapp groups, but not to anyone individually.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had on Saturday (July 2) directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the probe into the brutal killing of Maharashtra's Amravati-based shop owner.
