Amit Shah is an organisation man, follows party line, say BJP insiders

Mumbai : Amit Shah, who is widely seen as the architect of the BJP’s thumping win in northern India, is seen primarily as an ‘Organisation Man’ by the party insiders.

Sunil Deodhar, who was in charge of party’s campaign in Varanasi during recent Lok Sabha elections, describes him as “a leader who does not compromise on principles and ideology and follows every do’s and don’ts of the organisation.”

“Due to pressure from the grassroot workers, state BJP leaders wanted him to come to Mumbai for the recent office-bearers’ meet. But, he politely refused saying I’m just in-charge of UP. Party has not given me any other responsibility as yet,” said a party insider who doesn’t want to be identified told this reporter.

Shah has a knack of taking hard decisions and ability to implement them without causing resentment. His political acumen is always evident in his decision making, says Deodhar.

Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Vinod Tawde credits Shah for his creativity. “He has an ability to turn government schemes into mission. Gujarat government once reduced bus fares. All BJP MLAs and office-bearers travelled by bus that day. That created a huge sentiment in BJP’s favor. That was Amitbhai’s idea,” said Tawde.

“Amitbhai is easily approachable for even a small party worker. During his visits to Mumbai for hearing of CBI cases, many a times we have shared a ‘cutting chai’ outside the court. His grasping of the issues and intelligence with people is extraordinary. Everybody who comes in his contact feels empowered,” Tawde added.

People close to Amit Shah describe him as someone who does not like to socialise much. But, when it comes to party matters, he is seen as someone who is always willing to talk to people. “He talks very little. He makes people speak and listens patiently and carefully,” says Tawde.

“Like Modiji, Amitbhai too has withstood relentless attacks of his detractors over a period of almost a decade. But, he has never ever sidestepped party’s discipline,” says Deodhar.

Shah has a keen understanding of how to extract political power from public institutions. These of his abilities would see the party thrive in the coming days, feel the party workers.
