Mumbai : In what might be called as an act inspired by the RPI, who had taken over the Indu Mill Land during the UPA regime, the city Congress unit president on Monday announced that they would perform ‘bhoomipujan’ of Ambedkar memorial on April 14 if the government fails to do so by then.
The BJP governments at the centre as well as in the state are not serious over the issue, Nirupam said. “We will wait for the government to perform the ‘bhoomipujan’ for the memorial, on land for which was allotted during the UPA regime,” Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Sanjay Nirupam said.
“If the government fails to do so, we will barge inside the Indu Mill land and perform the bhoomipujan ourselves,” said the former MP.
“I had written to the Chief Minister in this regard. But, he failed to give me time for discussion with a fare prior notice. This shows the attitude of the government with which the issue is being perceived,” Nirpam said. He also said that the Union government needs Rajya Sabha’s nod before going ahead with the ‘bhoomipujan’ at the place. But, the government has not even scheduled it in the business of Rajya Sabha as yet. This shows the laxity on the part of Central government.
Now, it is being said that the Prime Minister would be on a tour to European Countries on April 14 and hence the ‘bhoomipujan’ won’t be performed, Nirupam said.
The ministers in the BJP-led government take pleasure in making grandiose announcements but nothing is done on ground, he said.
RPI leader Ramdas Athawale should make his stance clear on what his party intends to do, Nirupam asked. There is resentment among Dalits over the delay in performing ‘bhoomipujan’ of the Ambedkar memorial, the Congress leader said.
