Mumbai: Devotees thronged the temples on the Akshay Tritiya, one of the three-and-a-half most auspicious days in the Hindu almanac.  Devotees decorated the entire pooja room in the Pandharpur temple with marigold flowers giving it an ornate look. Devotees had lined up the temple since early morning.  On the other hand, the famous business family in Pune, Desai brothers, presented the city’s Dagdu Sheth Ganesh temple with 11,000 Alphonso mangoes. This was an offering made on the auspicious occasion. Similarly, the Ganesh idol at Shri Udyan in Dadar, too, was decorated with 2,100 mangoes.

Meanwhile, it was a good news for the consumers as the gold prices dipped on this auspicious day to Rs 32,600 for 10 grams. This triggered a rush of customers to jewellery shops. Some jewellers claimed that the sales increased by 15-20 per cent.  In Jalgaon, the price of gold was Rs 32,100 for 10 grams, which led to a rush of people to the gold jewellers.  People also took to purchasing gold online. Since people can purchase gold online from rupee one onwards, people have purchased on token price to buy gold on this day. According to the Hindu tradition, gold is to be purchased on these three-and-a-half auspicious days to herald success.
