The cabinet also resolved to raise the allowances for the Sarpanch (Village Heads) and the Gram Panchayat members from August 15. Heads of the villages with a population of fewer than 2000, will now get Rs. 1000 as remuneration. They used to get Rs. 400 earlier. Similarly, heads of the villages with a population fewer than 8000, will now get Rs. 1500 instead of Rs. 600. The committee members will get Rs 200 instead Rs. 25 for every meeting. 

Earlier, they were paid only for 12 meetings per year. The government has decided to pay all these allowances which is expected to cost the exchequer Rs 66 crore ever year.
