Vishal Rajemahadik (Palghar): The newly-launched beat marshal patrolling in the Vasai-Virar area resulted in the rescue of a four-year-old girl who was separated from her mother at a vegetable market near Nalasopara station on Thursday evening.

Two beat marshals — Yuvraj Waghmode and Ajit Kamble — had reached a secluded spot at Alkapuri Road in Nalasopara when they saw a crowd of around 20 people, only to find everyone questioning a small girl about her whereabouts. Without wasting a moment, the marshals took the girl into custody and comforted her.

The girl, identified as Sana Rustom Shaikh, had no identification on her, making it tough for the marshals to locate her guardians. After questioning passers-by and the people gathered around, they came to know that the girl was a resident of Adarsh Niwas in a nearby locality. They took the girl to her house and re-united her with her family members as her mother, Khalida Shaikh, was still searching for her daughter in the station premises.

Family members said that she had gone to the market with her mother, who only became aware later that her child was missing.
