A total of 17,000 houses have been constructed at Kurla Premier Automobile area for the rehabilitation of those living in the critical areas around domestic and international airports. A meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, was conducted two months ago in which it was decided that those living in the areas marked as ‘critical’ for the airport operations will be rehabilitated.
After the meeting it was decided that the collector’s office will begin the work of ascertaining the eligibility of critical areas and people to be rehabilitated.
According to a survey carried out two years ago, about 8,000 families living in these areas are to be rehabilitated. These areas identified as critical are from Jari Mari, Kranti Nagar, Sandesh Nagar and Sevak Nagar areas. There is encroachment on about 308 acres of airport land of which those eligible will be given accommodation in the houses constructed at Kurla Premier Automobile.
