Bhayandar: Two BJP corporators in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), one of them a former mayor, got involved in an ugly scuffle as both almost came to blows on each other at a public function in the Hatkesh area of Kashimira, landing the leadership of the party in an embarrassing situation.
The incident was reported on Sunday, at a free umbrella distribution programme being held in a shed for senior citizens by a local social organization which had invited BJP corporator and former mayor Geeta Jain as the chief guest.
As the distribution was about to begin, local BJP corporator, Rupali Shinde, Modi barged into the venue and created a ruckus with claims that the shed was built on the virtue of her development funds and any type of programme in the premises needed her permission.
The heated exchange of words took an ugly turn as both the corporators got engaged in a physical scuffle and almost came to blows in full public view. The ugly brawl was caught on the cameras as several onlookers filmed the episode and posted it on various social media platforms.
Ever since Geeta Jain has sounded rebellion against sitting legislator- Narendra Mehta by staking her claim over the candidature for the upcoming assembly elections, the local BJP unit has been split into two camps, sources said.
Rupali Shinde is said to be a staunch supporter of Mehta. Interestingly, the incident comes close on the heels of another bitter battle between two Congress corporators over the issue of removal of an illegal tapri (stall) in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road.
