Mumbai : After an exceptionally dry monsoon, in what comes as a relief, the Tulsi lake that provides water to the city overflowed on Tuesday morning. The area surrounding it recorded 46 mm rainfall in 24 hours. The lake has recorded 8,046 million litres of water as compared with the 7,978 million litres of water it recorded at the same time in 2014.
The cumulative water available in all seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai is 11,29,089 million litres. They had 14,34,001 million litres of water at this time last year.
Also, Modak Sagar overflowed on Sunday and it now has 1,28,925 million litres of water. However, it recorded only 8.4 mm rainfall in 24 hours preceding Tuesday morning.
The BMC has opened the gates of Middle Vaitarna on Monday afternoon, to maintain water levels in the Bhatsa and the Tansa lakes.
