Rs 25 lakh were spent on tab phones for corporators

Bhayandar : The much-hyped eco-friendly plan envisaged by the Mira Bhayandr Municpal Corporation (MBMC) to phase out the use of paper in day-to-day affairs of the civic body has remained only on paper for the more than one year. It should be noted that as a part of their eco-friendly plans, the civic body had spent more than Rs 25 lakh to distribute high end Samsung-Galaxy Tabs to all 97 elected representatives to ensure paperless governance.

The idea was that they would receive various official notices, invitations and meeting agendas on their electronic gadget via the internet.

However, over the past more than a year, the civic administration has not uploaded or emailed a single circular to the corporators some of them who use the tab phones more for personal use than for official purposes. When contacted municipal commissioner, Suresh Kakani said.

“From now on the administration will not only press e-correspondence facilities to interact with corporators and head of departments, but the process was underway to transform all old hard copy records into digitalized versions.” Thanks to the casual approach by the higher-ups in the MBMC, the administrative wing still waiting its precious time and money in churning out thousands of photocopies each month.
