Mumbai : The Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana has finally got its first share of power in the State. The state unit president of their youth body Ravikant Tupkar has been appointed chairman of Maharashtra Powerloom Corporation and has been accorded status of a Minister of State. Department of cooperatives, marketing and textile has made the appointment. Incidentally, Chandrakant Patil, who heads the ministry from Kolhapur and has been given the responsibility of coordination with the smaller allies of the BJP.
The allies have been demanding their share in the power for quite some time now. Ultimately according to the promises made to the allies, the government appears to have started acting. Swabhimani Sanghatana has become the third ally to enjoy a share of power. The Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana has been vocal against some of the government policies. Party MP Raju Shetty and state president Sadabhau Khot have been criticising the government for past few months. They have been sidelined while making the appointment, political observers have said.
