A day before Shab-e-Bharat, traffic offences shoot up in city

Mumbai: The illegal parking of vehicles topped the list of traffic violations done on the eve of Shab-e-Barat, which was observed on Tuesday night.

The Mumbai traffic police fined a total of 1,368 people for illegal parking, which was followed by those caught riding without helmets and driving rashly. A total fine of Rs 3.37 lakh was recovered from these offenders.

Senior Police Inspector of Worli traffic police station GV Parmar said, “The number of offenders this year was relatively low. In general, the nuisance created by bikers is the most but this year the number of motorcycles on the streets was relatively low.”

The Worli traffic police fined 60 people, most of whom were seen riding without a helmet.
