Mumbai: The Election Commission has labelled 65 voting centres In Mumbai suburbs as ‘critical’. As per the Election Commission of India (ECI), based on the previous elections, voting centres where more than 75 per cent polling was recorded or one candidate obtained more than 75% of the casted votes such booths are termed as critical. Therefore, to keep a watch on these critical voting centres, the EC has decided to use live web casting system on the polling day this time.
According a press release by the city’s suburban collector, there are 8 critical voting centres in Mumbai North LS constituency, 13 in Mumbai North West, 14 in Mumbai North East and 30 in South Central (although this LS constituency comes in the city limits but its two assembly seats fall in suburban limits), bringing the total to 65. –Staff Reporter The release further mentions, to avoid any misconduct, only senior officials from EC and police officers are allowed to access the web casting system and stop any miscreant activity taking place at the time of voting.
