Thane: The Kalyan Mahatma Phule police on Thursday arrested a gang of six members for a petrol pump robbery at Kalyan-Murbad road. The cashier was on the way to the bank to deposit cash when the incident happened. The trio robbed him and decamped with the cash.
The accused have been identified as Sachin Shirodkar, 23, Somnath Khandagale, 20, Nitin Pawar, 27, Rupesh Mahatre, 27, Rohit Survase 26 and Vaibhav Bhaskar 21. The robbers were arrested on the basis of mobile network location and CCTV footage. Rs 11.60 lakh was recovered. Sachin Shirodkar, a history sheeter has 10 cases against him, Somnath one, while Rupesh has four cases pending against him.
They were produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody till June 9. The victim, Pradeep Singh, works as cashier at Prem Auto petrol pump at Kalyan-Murbad road in Kalyan.
“Singh collected `12.40 lakh from the petrol pump at 10am last Friday and was going on his scooty to deposit it when the three accused arrived on a motorcycle and assaulted him before fleeing with the cash,” said an officer.
