Kalyan: A 40-year-old woman (name withheld), a Kalyan resident, observed her stomach was growing in size. She ignored it initially, as she did not feel any pain or discomfort. However, with the passage of time, it began to pain, as her abdomen grew larger.
“Pain was the main cause, and it was unbearable. She couldn’t walk, have food and was also having breathlessness. Finally, she visited a doctor,” said Dr Rajendra Sonavane, general surgeon and laparoscopic, who operated upon the woman. Doctors at the Kalyan-based Shusrut hopaital removed the tumour. The team comprised Rajendra Sonavane and Dr Suhas Mhaiskar.
Commenting on the condition of the ailing woman, Dr Rajendra said, “We noticed her discomfort. She was struggling to walk and had a problem breathing. On further examination with CT scans and sonography investigations, we found it was a very large tumour, occupying the whole abdomen.”
The surgery took 3.5 hours. “The original weight of the patient before the surgery was 100.6 kgs. After the surgery, the tumour weighed about 6.5 kgs. We sent it for the examination. The report stated it was a tumour of fibroid of uterus,” the surgeon added.
