Mumbai : The deadly swine flu has claimed a 5-year-old Santacruz girl. With this, the death toll has reached to 33 in the city so far this year.
The deceased was first admitted to Cooper Hospital wherein her swabs were sent for testing, which tested positive on August 7. Following this, she was immediately started on Oseltamivir dosage but she was subsequently shifted to Kasturba Hospital the next day.
The health reports stated that the girl had no co-morbidities. However, her health deteriorated and she developed pneumonia which worsened her
condition. She breathed her last on Wednesday owing to multi-organ dysfunction with septic shock.
The civic health officers stated that they are leaving no stone unturned in controlling swine flu cases and deaths in the city. Dr. Minni Khetarpal, head of epidemiology cell at BMC said, “We have surveyed 562 houses so far which includes a population of 2,236.
During our surveillance, six fever cases were detected and they were sent for treatment to dispensaries. Meanwhile, two private medical practitioners were visited and 150 doctors have been sensitized about monsoon-related diseases, following which, they have been given guidelines about starting immediate treatment if symptoms are reported.”
