Aurangabad :  In a cruel incident, a 35-year-old woman was smashed to death with a gas cylinder by her husband in Swaraj Nagar on Wednesday night.

The victim has been identified as Meena Rajendra Shelke, while the only accused in this case and her husband Rajendra Karbhari Shelke (40) is absconding.

A murder case has been registered in the Mukundwadi police station. Chief of the police station, PI Rajkumar Dongre, said Meena and Rajendra, a habitual drinker, would often engage in verbal duels and every time Rajendra would thrash her brutally. Fed up with this daily mental and physical torture, she had left him and gone to stay with her parents a few months ago.

However, the family matter was settled in the police station and a written undertaking that he will not torture Meena in future was sought from Rajendra, after which she returned to her husband.

On that fateful day, her two daughters went to stay with their maternal grandparents and only 15-month-old son was there in the house.

So there is no witness to the murder. Rajendra left the house early in the morning bolting the door from outside and the incident came to light when a 10-year-old girl opened the door and found the woman lying in a pool of blood and the child near her crying.

The incident has sent shock waves in the area and the cops have launched a manhunt for the accused who is still absconding.
